Dr. Joe Brown was recruited to Ohio Christian University (then Circleville Bible College) in 2000 as Vice President for Academic Affairs with the special task of leading the college through the rigorous process of regional accreditation. During his twelve year tenure as the institution’s chief academic officer he led the university through regional accreditation in his first five years, then through the national accreditation of its teacher education program in the next five years and then through the launching of its first master’s program. His stellar performance in this regard paved the way for the hiring of OCU’s tenth president, Dr. Mark Smith, under whose leadership the university has grown from bible college to university status.Dr. Joe, as students, faculty and staff affectionately call him, continues to be a key influence in the life and mission of Ohio Christian University. Two earned bachelors and two earned masters’ degrees, along with an earned doctorate, are in his academic portfolio. Thirty-four plus years of experience as a university professor and administrator (23 years as the chief academic officer) make him a ready source of sage wisdom and guidance for faculty, staff, and students alike. He is regularly recruited by accrediting agencies to serve as a consultant in theological education and to lead accrediting teams. His selection to lead a Review Committee for the Association for Biblical Higher Education, a prestigious Christian education accrediting organization, affirms his status in the broader academic community. He is often requested by area churches to lead Bible study series focused on specialized topics.
A consummate churchman and pastor with deep theological and biblical convictions, he continues to mentor and inspire a new generation of men and women called to vocational service in the local church.A Godly, spirit-filled man of whom President Mark Smith affirms, “If there is anyone that I want to pray for me, it is Dr. Joe Brown.” An outstanding teacher, preacher, pastor and man of God, Dr. Brown holds statesman status in the kingdom of God and brings grace, truth, and love to those he meets. His rich ministry of the Word has blessed members of churches throughout the years and continues to be relevant to the needs of our day.
